Caturday!
Here are two beautiful photos of Lord Bumble while the sun was setting.
I'm not sure which one I like better. This one...
or this one...
Sir Willabee was quite bored while getting his photo taken...

Today's Pup Portrait - Sister Grove Park
This was a well deserved hike for the pups. Handsome even got a break as I didn't bring the big DSLR camera... I just used my phone.

Gorgeous Advanced Duck Herding Debut Video
At the end of March, I tried Gorgeous on ducks and she didn't see them.
A few more training sessions after that... still not much of anything.
It was always the sheep on the other side. THEN a couple of months
ago, she moved them and liked it and never noticed a sheep on the other
side since. I knew then I had a duck dog.
Here are some video clips of Gorgie's first trial. She definitely has potential for doing very well.
Note... first song is from my favorite book series "Outlander" that has gone to a TV series on Starz. Love it! Next is Enya.

Gorgeous Outrun, Life & Fetch Video!
Here is the most GORGEOUS outrun, lift and fetch Gorgie has ever done in Advanced B Course sheep. It makes me think back before I owned Border Collies, how amazed I was watching these dogs work. I only dreamed that some day I would have a dog(s) that could do this.
*Be sure to watch today's clip as the "lift" was simply beautiful!
Sheepdog terminology...
Outrun:
Standing at "the post", the handler sends the dog to collect the sheep and start the run. The dog should go out in a pear shaped run, getting wider as it approaches the sheep. Towards the end of the outrun, the dog should move in behind the sheep, close enough to gain control, but leaving enough room to avoid disturbing them. In a trial the handler will choose the direction for the outrun.
Lift:
At the end of its outrun, the dog should be behind the sheep. The lift is when the sheep begin to move under the influence of the dog. It should be controlled and orderly.
Fetch:
When the dog brings the sheep to the handler. In a trial, the part of the course after the outrun and lift when the dog fetches the sheep straight down the centerline of the course to the handler.

Gorgeous Herding Competition - Day two
We had beautiful weather once again today at the trial. Gorgie had a really nice run in Advanced B Course sheep, but she didn't get the shed... so we didn't qualify. That's okay as she made up for it in Advanced A Course ducks with a qualifying 3rd place! Handsome ended the day with a qualifying 4th place in Advanced A Course sheep.
Here is a photo of the sunrise this morning at the farm. It was beautiful!

We started the day with B Course sheep. What a beautiful lift Gorgie had.
Next was A Course Ducks. Here are the pups before we headed to the arena.
Both dogs got a special treat for doing some great work over the weekend... a leg of venison! Handsome was in heaven! Poor Gorgie had some on-lookers waiting for scraps.

Gorgeous Herding Competition!
Well we got all our ducks in a row today and qualified on Gorgie's debut on ducks! I saw some really great work from her. With time, she will really do great... I can see it.
In the big field on sheep, Gorgie won the class and second place in the arena. My little Rockstar rocked today!
Here are a couple of video stills from the duck run today!

Fingers Crossed!
Gorgie debut's in ducks tomorrow at the herding trial. We are not quite ready, but will we ever be? I'm starting her out in Advanced in hopes of getting a Q... LOL. Handsome is entered also. We only entered in A Course.
Gorgie is doing A & B Course Sheep and Handsome just A. We are trying for championship points!

Today's Pup Portrait - Sister Grove Park
FAIL... one wanted in the photo and the other out!
Here's a better one!
"Maybe she and that dam camera won't see me behind this tree"...
"Oh hai!"
"What do you mean you don't like the Helmet Head look! Okay, just for you... ears up."
"No... I don't want to look at the camera!"
"Okay okay... you're embarrassing me! Here's your shot... now get up!"

Today's Pup Portrait - Sister Grove Park
Handsome thinks that if he hides behind the tree, the camera won't take his soul.
"Mr. Bucket Tree... is that you?"
"Mr. Bucket Tree... is that you?"
"It is you!"
The one area I was trying to avoid... she found! Grrrr.
